This tablet commemorates improvements made to the McIntosh County Jail by the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works, one of FDR’s so-called “Alphabet Agencies” during the Great Depression.

House on Vernon Square, Darien
Vernon Square, designed in 1806, was long the cultural, social, and religious center of Darien. It was one of several such spaces in Darien, following General Oglethorpe’s concept of town planning.

Jack Nelson Ford, Darien
This building was once the home of Jack Nelson Ford; today it stands as a nice example of Art Deco architecture, and, like many structures along the Georgia coast, incorporates tabby as a building material.
