Silas Coleman (2 January 1837-22 April 1921)
Silas Coleman was an Irwin County pioneer settler; I can’t locate much information about him, but I believe Coleman’s Pond, a nearby landmark, was owned by him or his family. For years, the road on which his grave is located has been known by locals as One-Man Cemetery Road. I believe it’s presently known as Kennedy Road. (Thanks to Mary Rogers for the information).

The tombstone is located on Kennedy road off of hwy 107, approx 1 1/2 miles down the dirt road on the right-hand side.
Can you tell me an exact location of where this tombstone is? My great-uncle Silas Coleman–but not this Silas Coleman–used to have the farm that this tombstone is located on and used to tell me stories about this Silas Coleman buried there when I was a boy 60 years ago. The story I remember is about a former slave named Silas Coleman who was buried in that grave and he had taken the family name of “Coleman”. I am interested in learning more.
Brian, I love looking at your pics on Vanishing South Georgia.
That is HOME to me.

I have been doing a lot of cemetery photos. So many are overgrown and forgotten. This is cool Brian!
Thanks, Patricia…it’s very unusual.
