Broad Avenue Memorial Bridge, 1920-2012, Albany

This historic concrete arch bridge, built in 1920 as a memorial to the veterans of World War I, was a sybmol of Albany throughout most of the twentieth century. Though an effort by local preservationists has stalled its fate and sparked major controversy, it appears demolition of the bridge will soon begin. It’s really a shame, as only a few major bridges of this style exist in Georgia.
