Thanks to the efforts of Chip Jones and everyone at Richland Better Hometown, this small community exhibits a sense of pride and history that should be an example to all. Cosmetic improvements, as well as an active search for small businesses, have helped Richland make a name for itself at a time when many towns of similar size are deteriorating and being forgotten.

Richland Depot, Circa 1890
Since its beautiful restoration, this historic depot has served as Richland’s City Hall and Rail Museum. I have been unable to track down a date of construction or any history of its early associations, though it was used by CSX into the 1980s, and briefly the Georgia Southwestern Railroad.

Harmony Church, 1894-2007, Richland
This historic church was destroyed during a tornado on 1 March 2007. Its congregation dates to 1839. Many thanks to Chip Jones, director of Richland Better Hometown, for sharing the photograph and the history.
