The land for the well and pavilion were donated by Mary McQueen. It was used for water until it dried up in the 1920s. The New Georgia Encyclopedia states that the land was donated in 1905 but does not give a date of construction. The National Register of Historic Places nomination form dates it to 1907.

As a kid, we always rode our bikes around town, but ended up at the well for a drink of Water. I can’t remember the date, but in the late 1980’s, the Well pavillion was renovated with huge beam timbers from Harry Chapman.

I love the old well. My dad, as a kid, used to shoot marbles underneath it. He is in his 80’s now and still talks about it. Thanks again for preserving a small piece of history, my family’s history.
