Archibald Malcolm McRainey (1866-1914) came to Baker County from North Carolina and made a fortune in the timber and turpentine businesses. The community of Elmodel grew up around these enterprises. The house was designed by architect William Jay. PLEASE NOTE: Due to past problems with thieves and other vandals, the owner of this house, who lives next door, is armed and will not hesitate to shoot if she catches you on her property. Do not attempt to enter this house or the property itself. It is safest to shoot this from the road, or risk being shot; I strongly advise against trespassing here! Please do not leave rude personal comments about the owner of this house in the future. I understand that there have been many misunderstandings, but I also totally understand why the owner has the attitude she does toward trespassers.
