My mom is 73 and grew up in Newington during the 50s and she says it had to be more than 50 years because she doesn’t recall a Lanier Hotel at all and neither does my daddy who is 81 and also grew up in this area. They both said it had to be 60-70 years ago.

This is tagged in Newington, GA, can you say approximately where it was located in Newington? I live in Newington, and never realized there was a hotel here at one time.

    • Craig–I presume the hotel was somewhere in the downtown area, since they put it on the mural. It’s likely been gone for fifty years or more…would love to see an old image of it myself. I’ll check the Ga. archives and see what I can find.

Hi Craig. This mural was painted by Paul Leeder, a very well known local sign painter, in the early eighties, I believe. It was close to Billie Boykin’s shop, on main street (21). Maybe on the left side of her shop, where there was a vacant lot. I am surprised how faded it looks. But my mural across from your house on the little barn there did not fare well wither.
