Smitty’s Grocery has been an Effingham County landmark for well over fifty years. Many have good memories of Mr. Smitty and Mrs. Patrice Johnson. The structure was actually one of three parts of the late-19th-century Richard Cuyler house. I believe it’s recently been reopened as a grocery and antique market.
I remember stopping at Mr. Smitty’s everyday either going to or from high school in the mid-late 80’s. Mr. Smitty and Patrice were so nice. Mr. Smitty at one times lived a couple houses down from the store, if you were to stand facing the store, there is a brick house that is 2 or 3 houses down from the store, there used to be cows by the house. Thats where he was living. Lots of memories there.

Thanks for sharing, Mark!
I cant even tell you how many times I have had a ice cold Coke while sitting on this porch. I used to know Mr. Smitty well and think he lived in a house close to the store. I do believe the store belonged to my grandparents at one point. There is quite a bit of history with the homes in Marlow.
How can I find and / or contact the owner of Smitty’s grocery store here in
Marlow , Ga
