Watts House, Shellman

Pam O’Connell writes: My Grandfather, John Watts, was born in this house in 1899, as was his Father before him. My Mother was raised here, and we spent Summers and various holidays here. This was our family home. Our farm was close and has been in our family since 1840. My Grandfather passed away in 1984, and this is where he lived his entire life. He had three siblings that did not stay in Shellman once they reached adulthood. There used to be an adorable potting shed on the left, a screened slat house out back, the cook’s house and the old stables, where my Mother kept her horses. This house is very special to me.

I have owned the Watts House for about 15 years. I have spent many hours and much money on the restoration. It is about 90% complete. I have photos of the interior if anyone is interested.

Mr. Muse, My husband and I enjoy looking at old home in GA and hope to retire there in about 5 years and hope to buy a home just like yours. You stated that you have spent many house over 15 years working on the amazing restoration. We wonder why you now have to leave the masterpiece behind. I know if it were me I would be heartbroken. I so wish the timing were better for us because being apart of her history would be a dream come true. If you have more pictures than the ones offered on Zillow I would love to see them.

I remember Joanna who grew up there. She and Carolyn rode horses together and were contemporaries of my brother, Robert Crittenden. I remember visiting in that house.

    • My Mother! I remember Carolyn., A lifetime ago my Mother and I spent the night with her the night before I started Mercer, in Macon. We went for a night ride and it was so much fun! Are you anywhere near Shellman still?
      Joanna’s daughter,
      Pam

Pam, Thank you for sharing the story behind this grand home. I always wish the wall could talk and sometimes we get lucky. Here it is Sept. of 2019 and she is up for sale. I wish I could be the one to carry the torch creating new memories but thank you for yours.

      • Hi Debbie,
I was on this wonderful site one day and there was our house! I am trying to find the listing, do you perhaps know where I might find it? Thank you so much! If only I could fill it with the people I loved as well! I adored my Grandfather and am aching to get back for a visit. My Father, and both Grandmother and Grandfather are in the cemetery a couple of blocks away. Thank you for writing!
        Kindly,
        Pam

PAM, Here is the link to the listing from Zillow. If the link fails to work just go to Zillow.com then type in the address 3354 Pearl St Shellman GA and it will take you straight to it. The newest listing date is July 23, 2019. The current Owners have done amazing restoration and has hand picked the furniture that will sold with the home. Maybe I can will the lottery and I could move right in. After you browse the photos I would love to hear your thoughts.
        Warmly,
        Debbie
