Wes Carter writes: I grew up in Berlin and lived there until 2002. I remember this was General Brownings barber shop. There was a red, white and blue barber pole out front and then Berlin Diner which is what the sign you see in the picture said, although now faded. Jonie Nicholson adds that it also served as Berlin’s first youth center. For those not in the know, Berlin is pronounced BUR-LUHN.

Thank you so much for this site about south Georgia. I was born and raised there. It has been fun looking at all the photos since I live too far to go back a lot. The building to the left of the Berlin Diner, my grandfather Samuel Castleberry owned it many years ago and both him and my dad help build it.

Thanks, Wes. I wondered about this place.
I have lived in Berlin off and on my whole life. Love it there. I also love to take pictures of the older buildings that have meant so much to my family and myself. This building also served as the first Youth Center that Berlin had. Many many memories made there.
I lived in that town from 1986 to 1989. This building was just a short walk down the street from my home. In fact, the building looked very much like this at the time.
