While photographing in Pitts one day, I was told that this was the old movie theatre. Pitts was once a much busier place. Robert Jett notes that this was Jett’s Hardware, operated by his father, E. B. Jett, from about 1955 to 1960; he confirms that it was used as a theatre before then.
My grandmother remembers this being a theater. It’s my fave building in Pitts.
Is this the town we visited? That theatre sure looks familiar!
It is, Eleanor. I think I made this one our outing!
Don’t forget, all you needed for a movie theatre was a sheet and a projector.
This was my dads ( E.B. JETT ) HDW STORE FROM ABOUT 1955 TO 1960 AND IT WAS A THEATER BEFORE THAT
Thanks for sharing this information, Robert!
Pitts is the “Gateway to Seville.” (pronunciation: See-ville)
Indeed, Fred! I’m glad you clarified the pronunciation for those not in the know!
