Board-and-Batten Farmhouse, Wheeler County

Abandoned Tenant Farmhouse Logging Machinery Wheeler County GA Photograph Copyright Brian Brown Vanishing South Georgia USA 2014

As you’ll see in other posts from Wheeler County, the board-and-batten style is common in this area. It was actually common all over rural South Georgia for much of the 20th century but I find fewer and fewer in my travels. This style is often associated with turpentining, as well.

What is the abandoned machine in the foreground in this photo? And, is this house built on a lime rock formation?
