Drew House, Midville

Jennifer Drew writes: This house has always belonged to the Drew Family. My name is Jennifer Drew and I plan to restore this house. I have already started clearing it out and am extremely excited about it. It was always my Dad’s dream to restore the old “Drew” house and I promised him before he passed away that I would try my best to see it done. Thanks to the help of many locals, such as Steve Bunn and Charlie Rackins, it is coming together nicely.

I believe this is the Stockton house. Home of Louise Stockton (nurse) (1905-1978) and her brother Bill Stockton. Neither married. They were the children of Rev. W. J. Stockton and Letitia Jones Stockton. Letitia was the dgt of Francis Allen Jones of Oris Grove. Locals please correct if I am wrong.

I used to play in this house when I was a little girl. We lived on Harris St. and my brother and I used to sneak in and get scared and leave pretty quickly. It was very strange, everything was left behind…perhaps someone died and had no family…I lived there in the early 80’s and it was dilapidated then. This was such a great town to grow up in with the innocence of childhood, the safety of the streets and neighbors. We had chickens & a garden…thanks for the great pic and memory! I think of this place often.

      • How wonderful that your are honoring his wish! The house is a real landmark to me, maybe the first house I photographed in Midville. Best of luck on the restoration, and I hope to get to see it when it’s done.
