Erected by the Ladies Memorial Association of Sumter County and the United Daughters of the Confederacy at the intersection of Lee & Forsyth Streets in 1901, this monument was moved to Rees Park after World War II due to traffic concerns at its original location.

    God Bless those dear Ladies of the UDC and the Ladies Memorial Association of Sumter County. If not for the remembrance and patronage by our Southern women of that time period (not long after the War), how would our Confederate Dead be remembered today? We owe a tremendous debt to our Mothers, Grandmothers, Great-Grandmothers & Great-Greats…
