Main Street, Leary

Sadly, Leary’s small commercial core on Main Street is greatly endangered. The only building that appears to be in really good condition is the Masonic Lodge (brick building with arched windows).

As of late 2016, I understand the building on the left has been razed. Bob Kemerait shared this photo.

I grew up in Leary, my daddy is a Methodist preacher and it was such a wonderful community in which to spend childhood. I don’t know if this is at all the focus of your blog but I would love to know where I could find any stories about the residents. We were part of the Leary United Methodist Church. I used to practice piano in the sanctuary when nobody was there and Daddy was doing the bulletin in the office.

Brian, the story you wrote on Elbe and Realia Jones at the Tar Paper House in Queensland were from Leary Calhoun County. They are all buried there at a Primitive Baptist church including my mother Susie Stewart. Please let me know if you need additional information.

    Thanks

Will it cost too much to refurbish the other building ?? If it is part of the history , then it should be preserved.
