Abandoned Hotel, Millwood

This structure seems to symbolize the fortunes of Millwood, like so many other railroad towns that dried up as soon as the business did. At one time, the railroad siding here was a busy hub but today the trains just speed by on their way into Rice Yard in nearby Waycross.

Jessica Carter writes: This is actually the old hotel…in Millwood. In fact, the upstairs is still in pretty much original condition. Luckily, neighbors seem to keep an eye on it. It would be a wonderful restoration project.

  1. My husband and I bought a house very much like this ( in Feb 2017) in appearence. When was this built and who was the architect? I have been looking nonstop for a house like mine. My house is over 100 years old. It is located in Salters, S.C.. Cindy Creel

    • Cindy, I’m not sure of the date or architect. It very likely could have been a local builder. I’ve only recently learned that it was used as a hotel. The size makes that likely, but I’m sure it was a private residence for much of its history. If I learn more, I’ll share. Neat that your house is similar.

This is actually the old hotel that used to be in Millwood. In fact, the upstairs is still in pretty much original conditon.

  3. Beautiful! Love the older architecture! Love that it’s in our area! I will have to find it to see it for myself.
