Thanks for all the Waycross posts Brian. This ”Craftsman” appears to be one of the designs of Leila Ross Wilburn…one of Georgia’s earliest licensed female architects. She published several plan books in the teens and twenties of the last century. I believe her last book was almost all ”ranch” style homes and published in the 50’s. There are scores of her designs all over the early ”suburbs” of Atlanta…especially Virginia-Highland and Candler Park.

    • Thanks, Ben. I assume it was right to call it a Craftsman, though it is a deep house, not a cottage. Fascinating about Leila Ross Wilburn. I’ll have to research her a little now.

She was definitely in her prime during the craftsman era and the houses in her early books are mostly in that style. Definitely do a google search. I think some of her plan books can be seen online. I know of at least 4 examples in Virginia/Highland of the same house as this on in Waycross. Ella Mae Ellis League from Macon is another interesting early woman in architecture who was still practicing into the late 60’s or early 70’s.
