For those not familiar, Gough is pronounced GOFF. The white building in the foreground is the Gough Lodge of the Prince Hall Masons, an African-American fraternal association. Agricultural warehouses can be seen in the distance.
Gough was named for J. P. Gough and the first post office opened in 1905.
thank you for the pics, I will show my grandmother Carrie Bell Gough/ daughter of the late LAMAR DENNIS Gough.
My daddy was raised in Gough. My great grandmother and grandfather lived there for years.
These photos of structures in Gough, GA, bring back such wonderful memories. I grew up in this little town and moved north at an early age. My grandmother was one of 18 birth siblings that also grew up in this town. I don’t get back as often as I’d like, as the siblings of my grandmother are all deceased now. The photos provoke such sweet memories of picking blackberries along the railroad tracks and finding wild plumbs and savoring the taste. Thank you Brian for capturing such treasures and sharing them!
So glad you’re enjoying the trip down Memory Lane! Your comments about St. Clair church are why I do what I do. If I can rekindle memories for one person it’s a good day and a job well done. Your memories, when shared, are as priceless to me as the photos are to you. Thank YOU!
